Beware Congress, We're All in Hedge Funds

Hedge_funds SAN FRANCISCO, Ca --- Here's the dark secret about hedge funds -- we're all addicted to them and the  returns that only hedge funds can generate. Pension funds are at the front of the line. They're the junkies in the fund game.

For good reason. Unfunded pension benefits are estimated to be between $600 billion and $1.3 trillion, according to JP Morgan which released the most comprehensive preliminary estimate.  No wonder those 35% average annual returns produced by hedge funds are so addictive.

Accepting Global Warming Without Accepting Global Warming

GlobeAfter watching author and New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman on Charlie Rose, I've come to a major conclusion.

We political conservatives can accept global warming WITHOUT accepting global warming.. We don't have to agree with their doomsday scenarios in order to support the lucrative techonologies that are emerging to confront their predictions.

As Friedman pointed out, China, Brazil and other nations are gearing up for the potential trillion dollar global warming industries..  alternative fuels, clean air technology.  America must get in line.. we have the smarts to 'capitalize' on these new industries.

So, let's just accept their premise, even though it's not a universal Given.   We'll never know for sure.  What do we have to lose? New multi-billion dollar industries, less toxins in the atmosphere, and breaking the 'addiction to oil.'

Gore: He's the End of Civilization

GoreAl Gore is predicting the end of civilization.  Let's get it clear:  The strength of this country, WHY millions of illegal "entrants" break the law to get in, is not the scenery or the culture.  They want a job.

Al Gore's prescription for the environment will put an end to that.  While China and India are polluting the globe --- and those two countries are exempt from the Kyoto Treaty provisions --- the U.S. will take the hit.  Gore is heading towards a run against Mrs. Clinton.  Fear the result should he win.  On second thought, it would end the illegal immigration problem.

Port of Call

Dubai There's a silver lining in the Dubai/Ports mutterings.  The nation has finally awakened to the reality of a possible nuclear holocaust originated by fanatics.

So we've elevated the debate:  Finally.  The nation is getting serious about the threat.  Before the Dubai hullabaloo, the nation was engrossed with the Alito Supreme Court nomination.  During those hearings, the concerns were abortion, euthanasia, and the President's power to eavesdrop.  And what was the President listening for?  Terrorists!  Terrorists planning a nuclear attack on our homeland.

And a recent poll confirms this.

The poll by the AccessNorthwest research and outreach project at the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication at Washington State University in Pullman found that 81 percent said democracy requires government to operate openly.

Nearly seven in 10, or 69 percent, told researchers that open public records and meetings keep government honest. Nearly as many, 63 percent, said it was OK for government officials to keep records secret if they deem it necessary, and almost three-quarters, 73 percent, believe the president should "make some public records secret if it might help with the war on terrorism."
